For the Love of the Artist - Virginie

Sat 19.7. | Oho!
In For the Love of the Artist – Virginie, the woman behind Albert Edelfelt’s 1883 painting Parisienne (Virginie) steps out of her frame to speak. Model, muse and mystery, Virginie shares her story: life in Paris, the art world of her time, and what it meant to be a woman in an era when equality – in love or in art – was far from given.
This emotionally layered monologue is a tribute to the unforgettable woman who left a lasting mark on Edelfelt’s work.
For the Love of… is a monologue series written and performed by Marika Sampio-Utriainen, exploring the voices of strong women who lived in the shadows of great men. Edelfelt’s Parisienne (Virginie) is part of the Joensuu Art Museum collection.
