There was no need wind machines when Tarot, the heavy metal giants from Kuopio, mobilised the cranial body hairs of those in possession of such appendages. Small difficulties with sound adjustments were soon abolished, and during the small break the audience got to enjoy the sometimes overripe fruits of humour by the maestro Marco Hietala himself. Admittedly, some of the jokes were lost on yours truly, but never mind. It is a well-known fact that these guys’ sense of humour can be a bit odd sometimes. (lisää…)

Tarot – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
17.7.2010One hot soul mama!
17.7.2010
Thanks to Jukka-Poika the vibe was smooth and relaxed when Miss Saana and the missionaries arrived to Rentolava to preach the global sound of soul. It didn’t take long for the football squad sized band to create a samba carneval feeling to Rentolava. Their warm and loving feeling spread everywhere including the islands nearby.
Ethereal guitar pop at Rekkalava
17.7.2010
The Saturday afternoon saw the Seinäjoki-based rock-pop band Streak and the Raven taking the stage at Rekkalava stage. The band delivered some ethereal and dramatic guitar flowing to the public interested in Finnish indie rock styled music. Melrose has always been associated with intense, dynamic live shows and thus Ilosaarirock offered a real treat to the rocking crowd by enrolling the band to play on the Main Stage. Those fine men in black
17.7.2010
Hardly any band wishes for a blockbuster movie sharing the name with the band. Even if the movie would tell of a good subject, there’s still the danger of some questions being made. Even if you’ve actually been playing long before the movie came out. (lisää…)

Quality Trash: Mokoma
17.7.2010
Name Mokoma in the band sheet always means quality. The band has been building their carreer in such determination that their success isn’t just coincidence. The same determination is visible when Mokoma takes the stage. The wide-ranging audience from small babies to old time heavy rockers got much more than what they came for. The opening act at YleX- stage set the bar high for following performances. (lisää…)
Ilosaari loves Radiopuhelimet
17.7.2010
During the last quater of a century a lot of bands have been born and have disappeared. Yet one is and remains: Radiopuhelimet. At precisely two o’clock the group stormed the Sue-stage under the guidance of the vocalist J.A. Mäki. An hour later it was time to pick up your jaw from the floor and breathe deep for a moment. (lisää…)
Viikate first on stage
17.7.2010
Crowd starts to gather in front of Main Stage well before one o’clock, for it is Viikate’s turn to uncork the Ilosaarirock bottle, figuratively speaking of course. Saturday’s first on the Main Stage is not an easy to slot to fill, but Viikate tackles the honour with it’s inimitable, cultivated style. (lisää…)
