The real thing

18_Stam1na_mp_031.jpgLemi, the home town of särä, has given the guys from Stam1na t-shirts bearing the logo of the town, and not in vain, for Lemi has a good reason to be proud of these guys. Stam1na played it big and brash, and bowed to nobody.

Watching their gig, it’s easy to forget that Stam1ina was only recently introduced to the front line of Finnish metal, so convincing and fully-developed was their performance on the stage. The extraordinary moshing and guitar carnival offered by Stam1na, and the fresh “Ilosaari, perkele!” cries of the lead singer were beyond compare in their authenticity. The utterly Finnish swear words (perkele, for example) were anything but fake, and you could hear them coming straight from the heart. Stam1na served their metal on a heavy, heavy silver platter, and the special guest star, Jouni Hynynen from Kotiteollisuus, gave rise to spontaneous cries of hilarity from the crowd. The band also thanked Mokoma for clearing the path for metal music sung in Finnish.

18_Stam1na_mp_07.jpgOh, and for those who have been pondering what särä is, it is a traditional food from town of Lemi, made from meat and potatoes, and prepared in a wooden bowl.
