Verbal Wizards in Action
The festival folk packed in front of Rentolava (The Chill Out Stage) were met with open arms by the dynamic duo Hannibal and Soppa, familiar to some from Tulenkantajat.
The dialect perfect for Ilosaarirock combined with the free and easy atmosphere left everyone on splendid festival mood. The Northern boys were supported by a very impressive posse which included, for instance, the Lappish rapper Amoc.
Hannibal and Soppa gave yet another proof of the fact that they are true verbal wizards, whose rhyming does not fail to please the ears. The general feeling got even better when sun finally managed to win its battle against the drizzling clouds and the festival audience got to take off the raincoats. The hit “Lissää vinkunaa” at the very latest made even the most cynical members of the audience to move to the beat. Hannibal and Soppa have the praiseworthy skill to make people dance and forget their worries. Although the topics of their songs are often serious, they do not wallow in misery: they merely state the situation. The duo’s rhymes frequently contain the kind of truth that makes you smile: “Hunger is driven away by eating, women by drinking.”
