Tuomari Nurmio’s intimate moments

11_TuomariNurmio_em003.jpgA good-humoured and relaxed Tuomari Nurmio transformed the main stage into an intimate rock club.

The power of his charisma is apparent by the fact that it took a couple of songs to realize that the man was alone up on the stage. One man and a guitar could be a lonesome apparition on an otherwise empty stage, but Nurmio had no trouble keeping the audience firmly in his grasp. And they did appreciate the fact: a young man was seen shouting “he don’t need anybody, he’s up there all alone!” to his friend.

The blues-y gig led the audience straight into Mississippi’s swampy fogs. He kicked off with Kaalimaan kansa, and continued with Tonnin stiflat, Rannanjärvi elää and other bona fide classics. Lasten mehuhetki, the dark “children’s song” from early 80s got the biggest response. In my opinion the best cuts were the cheerfully upbeat Lihava rakkaus and Dumari, the rap song with a compact chorus of “Dumari tulee ja dumari tappaa”, “The judge comes and the judge kills.”
