Of all the artists repeatedly wished for over the past few decades of Ilosaarirock, The Sounds has been among the most requested – and for good reason. One of Sweden’s most successful rock bands, this self-proclaimed post-punk-alternative-indie-retro-new-wave-revival-rock outfit broke into international fame in the early 2000s, and more than twenty years later, their popularity hasn’t faded. Quite the opposite – The Sounds keeps getting better with age.

Best known for their iconic and irresistibly charismatic frontwoman Maja Ivarsson, the band’s hits – like Living in America, Painted by Numbers and No One Sleeps When I’m Awake – have echoed through stadiums, festivals and indie clubs around the world, and their energetic, razor-sharp live presence hasn’t faded one bit over the years.
