Sunday morning’s headache and slight start-up problems require precise treatment. One medicine was offered by Finnish-Algerian Manna at Sue-stage.
Backed up by the boys from Joensuu 1685, Manna performed songs from her acclaimed Songs of Hope and Desire album. The artist, also known as Finnish PJ Harvey, had to perform a slightly shorter set than usual, in order to give enough time for the followin Ricky-Tick Big Band and their fifteen-man crew to prepare.
But who cares about the length, even a smaller dose shoveled exhaustion away and gave brand new energy for a new festival day. The singer held a short speech about the importance of drinking a lot of water during the day, and forgot that herself. Doubtfully the audience even noticed her fainting, and to prove a point, she performed “Gimme Water” after the episode.
Encore was performed with only a guitar backing up the vocals, and then it was over. Although small stages are still the most probable place for Manna, one on only guess it won’t be long before the miss will take the leap to big stages. Until that, let us enjoy progression and intimate gigs.
