SOILWORK (SWE)

Without exaggeration, it can be said that Soilwork is one of the most important bands to push the stylistic limits of metal in the 21st century. It is not a coincidence that the band's breakthrough album Natural Born Chaos (2002) was produced by the Renaissance genius of modern metal, Devin Townsend of Strapping Young Lad fame.

Originally known as Inferior Breed, Soilwork has often been associated with the classic Gothenburg metal sound. Although it is true that the band's soul still belongs to melodic death metal tradition, these days they have also gathered influences from many other sources. The band's latest albums have effectively taken them into a direction where catchy melodies combine impressively with beautiful chaos.

Soilwork has also found friends outside Scandinavian metal circles, and their latest album Stabbing the Drama (2005) became number 12 on the US Billboard charts. Since then, the band has made more than 200 gigs all over the planet – no need, then, to give further reasons why Soilwork is an exceptionally intense and competent live act.

At the moment, Soilwork is preparing to ensconce themselves in the studio in early March in order to start working on their new album. Maybe the band will even pamper their Ilosaarirock audience with some brand new material?
