INSOMNIUM

Insomnium has for quite a while been one of the greatest prides of Eastern Finnish metal. Last year, their two acclaimed albums (In the Halls of Awaiting, 2002 and Since the Day It All Came Down, 2004) were followed by the dazzling Above the Weeping World. With their latest release, the band also started to gain attention among the wider audience, a development that was already long overdue.

The steep hills of Joensuu region have certainly had their effect on Insomnium's beautifully meandering melodies. Killer riffs come as easy to these men as killing himself comes to a Finn. And when the person behind the lyrics happens to be the son of a literature professor, the topics are likely to be something more innovative than the usual banal banter of heavy metal.
