DOWN MY THROAT
Last year, Down My Throat celebrated its tenth anniversary with releasing a much-applauded second album Through the River of Denial. It was, indeed, about time the wider audience started paying attention, because before that the band had mainly performed to a dedicated, yet small, group of followers. With their new release, the hardcore pioneers of Helsinki found a lot of new friends beyond the more traditional HC/punk audience. And justly so; the passing years have only helped DMT's tunes to become less chaotic and more guarded, crystallised even.
When the metal support structure is strong enough, it can easily take the weight of heaviest HC elements. This is the combination Down My Throat has always counted on. Their new material goes to show how well developed their melody sense is and how vital are the dynamics it adds to the raw, ominous grinding. With a soundblast like this, it is only fitting that the lyrics are not on the shiny happy side, but take a darkly critical view to the surrounding world. So sharpen your ears and listen up now, punkster, because this band has got something to say.
