There's Soilwork, there's In Flames, but for years there hasn't been a credible candidate to be the third party of The Holy Trinity of modern Swedish metal. Until Scar Symmetry, that is. Although the band was formed only two years ago, it has already made two albums to the ever-so-influential Nuclear Blast label, and it is a telling evidence of the band's wish to keep moving on that the name they chose for their new album is Pitch Black Progress.
Scar Symmetry's melodic death metal is a glorious example of how a 21st centrury heavy metal band has no scruples with combining strong melodies and extreme distortion and still be thoroughly enjoyable. It probably takes no more than five years when it already feels simply unbelievable that Scar Symmetry has ever appeared in the humble surroundings of Ilosaarirock, so if you want to be the one who can say "and I was there!", your chance is here and now.
