It is now nine years since the Finnish band Apocalyptica released their first album (Plays Metallica by Four Cellos) and proved the world that the cello is, by essence, a metal instrument. A lot has happened in that time. Now they are more like a band instead of three individual musicians, and what's more, they have already for some time now played their own songs instead of Metallica covers. On their last two albums – Reflections (2003) and Apocalyptica (2005) – a drummer has been added to the band's strength. It is also worth mentioning that they have sold a few more records than what they expected in the beginning: instead of a thousand or two, they have sold an astonishing two million albums worldwide, which makes them one of the best-sold Finnish bands ever.
Some of you may still think that an Apocalyptica gig means an hour or two of sitting around with cellos. Some of you may have to think again, because the band now rocks harder than ever. Even though the band was originally founded in a prestigious classical music school, many of your-average-heavy-metal-bands might want to learn a thing of two from the lot who knows how to make the ground tremble with the cello. Now it's your chance to come and see how Slayer shakes hands with Shostakovich!
